Essence My Base Skin Perfection Make Up Base Review
First Look
Essence My Base comes in two variants: The Skin Perfection Make Up Base and and the Illuminating Make Up base. The Illuminating variant has ultra fine shimmer in it which reflects light, while Skin Perfecting variant comes plain without any shimmer. The product being reviewed here is the Skin Perfecting Make Up Base.
The Make Up base comes in a slender tube with a pump dispenser. The packaging is cute, simple and travel friendly with a cap that fits in firmly.
I expected the tube to be a normal squeeze type one, but this one came with a pumping mechanism which I’m not really happy with. Even though this provides a sophisticated way of product dispensing, which is more hygienic and mess- free, the downside is that we can’t actually control the amount of product. Since the product doesn’t have a runny consistency, and is more like a cream, it just shoots out from the tube everytime the pump is pressed.
Two pumps of product will be too much , while one pump is not enough. There is no way to put extra unused product back to the tube and this leads to product wastage.

My Experience
Essence My Base Skin Perfection Make Up Base has an orange tint to it. The tint seems a little too bright but once applied the tint blends to the skin tone and disappears. The consistency of the product is perfect, neither too runny nor too thick and spreads easily on skin.
On application , it takes a few seconds to set and the finish is semi-matte to dewy. It moisturizes the skin very well. The product actually makes my oily-combination skin look more oily and shiny.
If used as a tinted moisturizer, it does the moisturizing part well but the coverage is zero. It just evens out skin tone lightly. If not topped on with a setting powder unless you have dry skin, it is going to make the face look like an oil slick.
When the product is used as a primer , it didn’t do much. Neither did it fill in the pores nor did it provide a smooth surface for foundation application. It actually felt heavy on skin, and because of the dewy finish, it made the foundation slide off easily. Instead of providing long-lasting foundation, it actually made face oilier and the foundation to wear off faster.
After a lot o trial and error, the best method which I found to make this primer work is by mixing it with foundation and then apply it. This gives a flawless finish and makeup stays longer. Since the primer has an orange tint, it also helps to neutralize pink based foundations when mixed.
The product caused mild breakouts on the skin and tends to clog the pores on sensitive skin.
This product, from my experience will not suit for oily-combo skin types if used as a separate layer. Dry skinned people will definitely like it for the dewy finish and moisturization it provides.

Urban Decay All-Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray

Hey Pretties!
Do you ever do your makeup and think to yourself, “Wow, good job!”? And then you go about your day and a couple hours later you look in the mirror and notice that you pretty much look like you just woke up and stumbled out of bed? Gah!! And then came along the Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray:
Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray

I never really gave setting sprays a second thought. Honestly, I thought whatta gimmick – a wet spray to make my makeup last longer? Hmmm.
Having combination skin, with a tendency to be more oily especially in the summer months, I find that by the end of the day most of my makeup has faded. I use a primer before foundation, but sometimes the heat just seeps through my face somehow and nothing seems to last. My real pet-peeve is when my blush fades halfway through the day — having flushed cheeks all day long would be great… looking fresh and awake even during that 2pm slump when I’m falling asleep at my desk in the office.
I’ve heard a lot of good reviews on the UD All-Nighter so at a trip to Sephora, I decided to buy the sample size - 30 ml spray bottle for $15 Cdn.
Here’s what the product claims to do:

I would have to say that this stuff works. Some reviewers describe it as “hairspray for your face” and that it is! After doing my makeup (before using setting powder), I close my eyes and mist about 4 pumps of this all over my face, keeping the bottle about 8-10 inches away from my face. Out comes a fine mist, evenly distributed with no fragrance. Thumbs up.
After misting, I sit for a few seconds with my eyes still closed and fan my face with both my hands until the UD dries. It only takes about 5-10 seconds really. It simply feels like water misted on the face – so refreshing. After drying it doesn’t leave my face feeling or looking wet; if anything it adds some hydration and counteracts any “flat face/too matte” makeup job I’ve done, leaving a dewy-ish finish. I somtimes top off with a light dusting of my Sonia Kashuk Chic Luminosity Glow powder.
I use my blush as a gage for how well this spray works. And I must say, that by the end of the day, my cheeks still have colour on them! And the rest of my makeup actually holds up pretty good too — base colour  may have a little bit of fading, but nothing compared to when I don’t use this spray. Maybe a few more spritzes would lock it in better. A very good addition to my makeup routine in the summer months. And, this has not made me break out – bonus!
I would definitely repurchase – possibly the full size bottle at $36 Cdn for 120ml and refill the smaller size I have and carry that around with me for a mist or two throughout the day when I need it.
Urban Decay has two other setting sprays: the De-Slick (oil-control) and the Chill (cooling and hydrating). I’ve heard the De-Slick, although oil-controlling, leaves some reviewers with oilier skin than before; haven’t heard too much about the Chill.

The Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser that everyone in Asia raved about has finally landed in the US!
Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Primer Review
Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser

Packaged in a cute-looking turquoise and pink tube, the Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Primer utilizes an insta-blur technology with silicone-based ingredients like Dimethicone, Dimethicone Crosspolymer and Silica Silylate to visibly smooth pores away. It can be used alone or under foundation.

The formula was a clear, fragrance-free gel that felt super velvety on the skin. With just the teeniest tiniest dot, it filled in the pores on my cheeks and made them look much less visible. It also smoothed out any dry patches I had and I loved how foundation and concealer seemed to just glide right on without pilling.

A lot of people have compared this to Smashbox’s Photo Finish Primer, even going as far as to saying that it is an exact dupe. While I do see the resemblances in terms of the texture and there are a couple identical ingredients, the Smashbox definitely made my makeup last longer than the Maybelline.

I have also read that certain people broke out from using the product, despite it being non-comedogenic. I always remove my makeup with a cleansing oil followed by a product that exfoliates and never had a problem with it clogging my pores.
